Happy Belated Thanksgiving!

We had a very busy Thanksgiving weekend! It was Dashiell's first turkey day on the Cape, and despite being on a nap strike that day he seemed to have a great time! I don't think his butt touched the ground at all on Thursday--everyone was passing him around and holding him on their laps. He loved it, though by Friday he felt the need to show off and do his rolling-sitting-scootching tricks all over the living room floor.

Dash's auntie Elizabeth and her fella Danny were in town and got to spend lots of time with him (and us too, which was great!). They head back to California on Tuesday and I'm sad to see them go--it was fun having them around and I wish they lived closer. But I'll take what I can get and just be happy that they were able to be here for over a week.

We put up all of our Christmas decorations on Saturday, and I tried to get a good picture of Dash under the tree but as you can see he was a little sad about it. But cute nonetheless!

Happy late Thanksgiving and I hope you all had lots of turkey and pie! Yum!

Rent-a-Baby

I think I could start a new business--baby rentals! Guaranteed to make you feel better about humanity--just go out in public with your rental kid and suddenly everyone is your friend! It's amazing how much nicer strangers are to you when you have a baby in tow--Dashiell and I were hanging out at Starbucks yesterday (Side note: Yes, I know they're evil but given the choice between Starbucks and Dunkin' Donuts I'm going to choose the place with better coffee and comfy chairs...) and EVERYONE smiled at us. One woman showed me pictures of her 13-month-old and introduced her as "Dashiell's future girlfriend". Another man told me that his daughter was bald as a cueball until she was 2 years old, then proceeded to make funny faces at Dashiell for about 20 minutes (which Dashiell LOVED). I've also noticed that more of our neighbors say hi when we're out for walks. I feel like I'm in Minnesota again!

On a separate note, I finally joined 2003 and am on Facebook! So anyone reading this who I haven't tried to add as a friend should try to add me as their friend! Wheeee!

I'm sure it'll be sometime around 2012 when I figure out what Twitter is...

Santa!

Ok we may have jumped the gun a little, especially since just last week I was complaining about already hearing Christmas music, but we went to visit Santa last weekend at the Burlington Mall. He's a really good Santa (real beard!) and we didn't want to end up going when there are huge lines, hence our early visit. Dashiell did great--didn't cry at all, and was fascinated by Santa's furry coat. Of course he didn't smile much either, but he was charming nonetheless.

Santa was playing pat-a-cake with Dashiell as this photo was taken. :-)

What's wrong with this picture?

Dashiell received this lovely hand-made angel doll about a month ago, and here's how it arrived it in its packaged form. The writing on the plastic bag states "WARNING: To avoid danger of suffocation, keep this and all other plastic bags away from babies and children...The thin film may cling to nose and mouth and prevent breathing". I guess they felt the need to illustrate what not to do in addition to providing the warning in writing.

It's just so disturbing...and funny, in a dark, dark, wrong sort of way...

Merry Christmas?

Ok as much as I love Christmas and as much as I'm looking forward to our first Christmas with Dashiell, I am so not ready to hear Christmas music yet! The oldies station started playing it YESTERDAY, 3 weeks before Thanksgiving! What?? It just seems wrong. Though of course Rick was excited--he loves Christmas music more than any human should.

The upshot of hearing xmas music is that it'll hopefully help motivate me to get my shopping done early. Plus Dashiell seems to really like the song "Sleigh Ride" (the instrumental version). He digs all the jingling and the horse sounds--we heard it while getting ready for bed and he stared at the radio and smiled and wiggled around like crazy. He's a funny kid, that's for sure!

New friends, old friends

Dashiell made a new friend this weekend! Jasper came to visit with his mom Erika, who is one of my oldest friends--her family lived within easy walking/biking distance from my family when we were growing up and we spent quite a lot of time together back in the day! Jasper is about a month younger than our boy Dash and is such a cutie! He's a very smiley and happy little guy, just like Dashiell. Someone actually asked us if they were twins, and when we said no she said "well they have to be related, right?". I guess it must be their common Minnesotan heritage!
