Happy 2-week birthday Dashiell!

Hi everyone--

Man it's been hard to find time to post! But I thought I should upload a bunch of the pictures we've taken lately to keep everyone in the loop. We're finding this little guy to be pretty amazing--It's incredible how expressive he is already! So here we have a few of his best expressions, along with a couple asleep-on-mom-and-dad photos.

Rick goes back to work on Monday, which I think we're all sad about. It's been so great spending all this time together, and I know Rick will miss seeing Dash during his long 24-hour shifts. But unless we win the lottery at least one of us has to work. Bummer.

Time to feed the little guy again! Sorry this is so short--

One week one day!

Hi everyone! We've passed the one-week-old mark--whew! :-) It's been quite an adjustment, but we all seem to be doing well. Of course, it helps that mom is in town, keeping our house clean and our yard raked and making us banana bread, while I spend nearly every waking hour feeding our hungry hungry hippo. Who would of thought that someone with such a small stomach could eat so much?

Aunt Lisa just arrived yesterday as well, and she is quite smitten with little Dash. But really, look at him--who wouldn't be smitten? ;-)

Congrats to Phil, the winner of the expectnet guessing game--though I admit I cursed him mightily when I first saw his guess. Guess he showed me, eh?

I'll post more when I get the chance--

He's here!!

HI everyone--sorry this is going to be super quick and doesn't have any pictures but I have all of about 10 minutes to write but we just got back from the hospital a couple of hours ago and are waiting for mom to arrive from Bemidji.

Here's the scoop: Dashiell Weber Hanson arrived on Saturday night, April 5, at 10:38 pm, about 30 hours after my water broke (no induction necessary!). It was a long, long day to say the least but we are so in love with this little boy that I can say in all honesty that it was worth it! I promise we'll be posting pictures, and lots of them, soon!

Much love--

-Suzi, Rick, and Dashiell.

Sent home :-(

So today was a pretty disappointing day. First things first, we have NOT had the baby yet. We ended up waiting at home until about 3 this afternoon before we got the call that there were finally beds open. Unfortunately as soon as we got there a whole pile of pregnant women who were in active labor showed up. I got hooked up to the monitor and we were left by ourselves for a couple of hours before my OB came by to check on me. Then we were left for a few more hours until the nurse assigned to us came by to let us know that even though 2 babies were just born, 2 more women showed up in labor so they still couldn't do the induction yet. By this time it was about 9 or 9:30, so the nurse called my OB back in to check on me again. We all agreed that even if they could do the induction tonight (and it wasn't looking likely) it would be a bad idea--Rick and I were already exhausted, and it could take many, many hours after starting the induction before the baby was born. So we were sent home.

Unfortunately they couldn't just bump us to tomorrow, so it'll be a few days before any induction can happen. We're having some more testing tomorrow and Sunday and we'll see what happens then. We're keeping our fingers crossed that this kid decides to show up on his own before the weekend is over.

I'm pretty bummed out, but all things happen for a reason, right? We just haven't figured out what that reason is yet--maybe the little guy just didn't want to share his birthday with Doris Day.

Someday soon our baby will be here, we just have to have patience.

More waiting!!

Well, shoot. I just received a call from Lowell General telling us to "stay put" for a couple of hours since labor and delivery is busy this morning and they want to make sure they have a bed for me before we come in. :-( We should hear from them by 10 am with our updated game plan. Sigh. All I really hope is that we can get in today sometime and we don't have to wait until tomorrow (or later) to get this done. I know I originally didn't want an induction, but now that it's been planned and I've been anticipating it I just want to get on with it so I can finally meet our baby! Plus I had been feeling pretty calm about everything up to this point, but I know all this waiting to hear from the hospital is going to wear on my nerves--I'll end up being a basket case if this takes too long!

Patience, patience...

Officially 41 weeks

Well, we made it to 41 weeks today and still no sign of the munchkin. I had my acupuncture appointment yesterday and while it seemed to be doing something while I was there (the baby was VERY active the whole time, which was a good sign), a few hours after I got home he returned to his normal activity levels (my acu. said he'd be very active all night) and I started feeling much better than I had all day--earlier I was feeling a ton of pressure in my abdomen, my back hurt, and I was exhausted. And today I feel great, like I could carry this kid for another 3 weeks. Not that I'd want to! But I definitely don't feel like today's going to be the day we head to the hospital. Of course since I've never done this before I could be wrong! I'm still hoping, though I'm pretty happy we have a back up plan and will be having this baby tomorrow no matter what!

This whole waiting business is a weird thing. It definitely creates a huge mixture of emotions--obviously excitement and anticipation, but it also give me a little too much time to think about the enormity of becoming a parent (not to mention too much time to think about what the labor is going to be like!). It's a bit overwhelming! But like bazillions of people before us, I'm sure Rick and I will do just fine.

Oh, on a side note, once we head to the hospital we'll be without a computer until we get home again. So unfortunately I won't be able to post pictures or updates for a few days. I'm sure you all understand...

Wish us luck!
