Step, two, three, four!

Alright so far we have no video evidence of this, but Dashiell has officially taken his first steps! Rick says he noticed him taking about 2 steps on his own on Tuesday, then on Wednesday I saw 3 steps and my friend Michele saw 4!! Today he was up to at least 6! And to top it off he also stood up without using an aid (such as the ottoman or me) TWICE today! Our boy's growing up so fast!!

He was in a MOOD today, though. Poor guy--I think he's teething like crazy. First off he's been on a pseudo-nursing strike, where he either won't nurse at all or he'll nurse for all of 3 minutes then refuse any more. This has been going on since right around Wednesday but has gotten worse in the past day or so. Then today he was also drooling like nobody's business and was so grumpy! He cried for about a half an hour before his afternoon nap for no apparent reason. This is SOOO not like him--normally he only cries for short bursts and then can be distracted, but nothing was distracting him. We broke down and let him have his pacifier pre-nap, even though we try to reserve it for crib or car use only. Thankfully he woke up from his nap in a much better mood, but still it was apparent that he just wasn't feeling like himself today. Poor little pookie!

Despite his off-day, I still was able to take a cute photo of Dash and Rick in the living room. This was about 2 minutes prior to the crying jag.

More fun photos!

Meghan Moore (of Megpix Photography) invited Dashiell to take part in another photo shoot with her son Crispin last weekend. You may remember the previous Dash-and-Crispin photo shoot from a few months back, it was the "babies in white" shoot. I think if you click on the title of this post ("More fun photos") you will be taken to her web site, with a small sampling of the photos she took ("small" only comparatively--she took something like 450 photos, but only 160 of them made it to the web site...). Once again we had so much fun! But there was no easy corralling of the kids this time--they're both very mobile and, as you can see from the photos, difficult to keep still! I have a feeling that the next time we'll be able to get a shot with both of them forward-facing and smiling will be when they graduate from high school. :-)

We did some bare-bum shots, and I hope no one is offended! She didn't post any of the photos that showed their little wees (or as we were calling it on Saturday, their "junk"), don't worry.

I encourage you to check out the photos, and I think you can rate them too! Or at least give them a thumbs up or thumbs down. The first page is all Crispin, the photos with Dash start on page 2. But the Crispin photos are really good so you should look at those, too!

"Wash Me"

Well I guess we're going to have to live with our dirty, salty cars! Both Rick and I have tried going to the car wash with Dashiell this past month, and it's just too frightening for our poor little guy! Rick downplayed it when he went by saying "Dashiell seems a little scared of the car wash--he cried the whole time". So yesterday when I went with him I figured he'd be unhappy but ok. No, actually he was terrified! I've never heard him shriek like he did, except once when he was having a nightmare, and I reached back to hold his hand and thank god he's not terribly strong yet otherwise he would have broken my finger! My poor, poor kid! I felt so bad!

So if you see us rolling by in our filthy cars, you'll have to excuse us. We'd prefer to not traumatize our little guy any more than necessary.

This one's for Sherry

...and everyone else, but Sherry is the one who got on my case yesterday for not updating the blog! ;-)

Our little guy is 10 months old today! 10 months!!! His first birthday is coming up way to fast--guess I'd better start planning! If anyone has any ideas for a theme, please let me know! I've got nothing so far...

Let's see, what's going on in the life of Mr. Dashiell Hanson? Well, he cut one of his top teeth right around the time I last posted. It looked really painful! It burst through and jutted out quite a bit, but since has receded and is closer to the gum line. Who knew that could happen? Another top tooth looks like it's about ready to break through as well, though Dashiell seems less peeved about this one.

We're still working on getting him to eat more solid solids. He doesn't like lumps in his food and will often gag and throw up when I try to get him to eat chunkier food or Gerber Puffs. I don't think he realizes that he needs to chew, or move his tongue in a way that will let him process the lumps. However, he did try to eat some of my banana the other day, and as you can see from the attached photo, he has figured out how to eat Ritz crackers! I think it's the fact that they're easy to hold and get to his mouth, plus the crumble into easily swallowed bits. He was intently watching Rick eat crackers one day, so Rick gave him one to see what would happen. The rest is history! Occasionally he'll still gag a little but otherwise he's got Ritz down pat. Now if only I could get him to eat other solid things with as much enthusiasm...
